Functional Projects documents IIC systems that have moved beyond concept, diagnosis, or workbench activity into demonstrated useful operation.

Functional does not mean finished forever.

Cross the line
into useful operation.

A project belongs here when it can perform useful work in the environment for which it has been prepared.

That does not require the system to remain unchanged forever. Functional hardware can be upgraded. Software can be refined. Infrastructure can assume new responsibilities. A repaired machine can later become part of a larger system.

The distinction is simple: the work has produced something that can now do useful work of its own.

Built

Hardware, software, infrastructure, or physical systems have been assembled, repaired, configured, or developed.

Tested

The system has been exercised sufficiently to establish that its intended capability actually works.

Functional

The result has crossed into useful operation rather than remaining only an idea, diagnosis, or workbench experiment.

Useful infrastructure does not have to begin as new hardware. Existing systems can be inspected, recovered, configured, repurposed, and assigned responsibilities appropriate to the capability they still possess.

IIC uses functional computing hardware as real development infrastructure rather than treating age alone as a reason for disposal.

Capability matters more than age.

Multiple Dell desktop systems have been brought into IIC's working environment and used as functional local computing resources.

Their value is determined by the work they can reliably perform, not by whether the hardware represents the newest available generation.

These systems provide practical platforms for local services, experimentation, infrastructure development, Linux deployment, storage, networking, node operation, and other responsibilities appropriate to their individual capabilities.

Equipment that might otherwise be considered obsolete can remain valuable when its capabilities are understood and matched to an appropriate role.

These records document systems that have crossed into useful operation. Additional projects will be added as their functional state is established and documented.

Functional Projects will expand across computing, electronics, fabrication, repair, infrastructure, software, and other demonstrated IIC work.

Projects are added here when useful operation has been established—not merely when development begins.

Functional is not final.

Reaching useful operation establishes a capability. It does not prohibit further development.

A functional system can be observed under real conditions, improved, reassigned, expanded, integrated with other systems, or eventually retired when another solution becomes more appropriate.

That makes functionality a meaningful milestone without pretending engineering has reached an artificial endpoint.

The purpose is not to present every experiment as a success. It is to distinguish systems that are actively being explored from systems that have already demonstrated useful operation.

As IIC continues to build, repair, restore, fabricate, program, and integrate systems, this archive can grow with the work.
